Welcome to join the ajira digital pilot project

Our aim is to provide remote work opportunities to skilled Kenyan IT graduates — starting from short work tasks to gain experience and building a path to reach a sustainable source of income.

On this page you’ll find all the necessary information about the Ajira pilot project: what it is and how you can join!

What is the ajira pilot?

The Ajira pilot is a project run by Work Pilots and backed up by the Ajira Digital Program – an initiative by the Government of Kenya, under the Ministry of Information, Communication and Digital Economy (MoICDE), being implemented by the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) – our main partner.

As part of the ongoing efforts at Ajira to reduce the unemployment rate in Kenya, we're looking to cultivate a vibrant ecosystem that seamlessly connects skilled professionals to digital work opportunities, both within Kenya and across international markets.

The project utilizes its own mobile matching platform powered by Work Pilots. The mobile platform makes it easy and efficient to match workers to digital work tasks. Join here!

Exclusive to 50 workers

The Ajira pilot is exclusive to 50 preselected IT graduates, meaning that there won’t be any other workers on the platform and the tasks are only visible to the participants.

Pre-assignments

Before accessing the real work tasks, each participant must complete pre-assignments including short training material and a practice task. Detailed information is found on the platform, after you’ve registered.

Kick-starting with you

We're focusing on securing tasks for the first 50 participants within the initial 3 months. Early engagement is especially valuable now, as it strengthens long-term collaboration and supports ongoing service delivery beyond this early phase.

real work experiences

After the pre-assignments, you’ll be able to apply to real work tasks. The amount of earning is shown per task. Apply and you’ll be notified when you get selected! Agree details with the client through the platform and complete the task.

Types of tasks

The work tasks are planned to be for example about digital security, digital marketing and digitalization of documents.

payments

The amount of earning is shown per task. You will receive the payment within 1 month of the client’s approval that the work is done. Please make sure you have a valid phone number and bank account (IBAN) on your profile.

How to join the ajira pilot?

These instructions are meant for the 50 IT graduates who have been preselected to join the first Ajira pilot.

1.Download the workpilots app

Download the WorkPilots app from Google Play Store or App Store. It’s free!

2. Register

Register to the service. On the page “Select your service” write the required private code AJIRAWP to register to the Ajira pilot platform.

3. create a profile

Choose role Worker and fill your profile details: location, profile picture and description about yourself.

You have a digital CV as part of your profile in the app: open ‘Profile settings’ and add your education, accomplishments and language skill. Later when you complete work tasks through the platform, the experiences and feedback will be automatically added into your CV.

You do not need to add social security number in the app although the field is visible in the profile settings. Please make sure you have a valid phone number and bank account (IBAN) set for the profile , because they will be used to pay compensations for work.

4. Complete a pre-assignment

Once you have your profile all set up, you see pre-assignments in the “Opportunities” page. Complete a pre-assignment and after that you will be added to a team of qualified workers and will see real work opportunities in the app!

!!! IMPORTANT !!!

You are to perform a single pre-assignment to gain access to most of the paid work opportunities. To access all paid opportunities, complete a single cybersecurity related pre-assignment.

If you are unsure if an assignment is cybersecurity related, ask the client posting it. If you have already completed a non-cybersecurity related task, you can do a single cybersecurity pre-assignment as well to access all tasks.

Remember, pre-assignments are not paid tasks. These are established to provide insight of the workflow and familiarize with how the platform works.

5.Apply to work tasks

Browse through the opportunities and apply to the ones that you are interested in. If you are selected to a task you will receive a notification and an email about it. After selection, please contact the Client as soon as possible to confirm that you’ve seen the selection.

6. Complete the work

Complete the work as agreed with the client. After that mark the task as delivered in the app and give feedback to the client. The client will also approve the work and give feedback to you, which will be stored on your profile.

Compensation to you will be paid within 1 month upon the client’s approval of the work.
