Our aim is to provide remote work opportunities to skilled Kenyan IT graduates — starting from short work tasks to gain experience and building a path to reach a sustainable source of income.

What is the ajira pilot?

The Ajira pilot is a project run by Work Pilots and backed up by the Ajira Digital Program – an initiative by the Government of Kenya, under the Ministry of Information, Communication and Digital Economy (MoICDE), being implemented by the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) – our main partner.

As part of the ongoing efforts at Ajira to reduce the unemployment rate in Kenya, we're looking to cultivate a vibrant ecosystem that seamlessly connects skilled professionals to digital work opportunities, both within Kenya and across international markets.

The project utilizes its own mobile matching platform powered by Work Pilots. The mobile platform makes it easy and efficient to match workers to digital work tasks.

What kind of ASSIGNMENTS can I post?

Anything that is IT related and can pixelated in to small tasks! Even the smallest task, that takes just an hour to perform, is great help to get our talents remote work experience.

We have some example tasks provided below, but you can add your own assignment and address it to our wide range of talented candidates. Their field of expertise is in IT and Computer Science, and you fill find a list of categories within these topics when posting your task.

  • Create a customized, regulation-aligned security audit checklist that will be used by the organization to self-assess its current security posture.

    In this task the a talent will collectively define the scope and purpose of the audit with you, to ensure that it is done in a structured and effective manner. This enables you to properly review your security systems, processes and procedures.

    This package sets the foundation for building a secure, compliant, and sustainable cybersecurity posture within your organization. It enables informed decision-making by uncovering real-world vulnerabilities and establishing clear next steps for remediation and capability improvement.

  • Following the completion of the security audit, this next phase involves the development of a comprehensive security report. 

    This task allows to translate technical findings into actionable insights, making it accessible and applicable on identified issues during the audit process.

    This task ensures that you have identified the core issues and amendments in your vulnerability.

  • An established asset inventory template will assist you to identify and document all critical information assets within your organization. This helps with efficient asset management and can be used as a reference when auditing is done by the authorities or an external auditor. This ensures visibility of assets for effective risk assessment and management.

    You will be provided with a professional asset register in spreadsheet or tabular format. Clearly listing all relevant information should include a cover page that details all the key information regarding the assets listed in the specific inventory.

  • Translate audit findings into a structured risk register to help you prioritize and mitigate security risks.

    You are provided with a structured risk register that can be filled by your organization to pinpoint your critical points.

Exclusive to 50 workers

The Ajira pilot is exclusive to 50 preselected IT graduates, meaning that there won’t be any other workers on the platform and the tasks are only visible to the participants.

Pre-assignments

Before accessing the real work tasks, each participant has completed a pre-assignments including short training material and a practice task. This way we can guarantee that everything is ready for you to start working with them.

kick-starting with you

We're focusing on securing tasks for the first 50 participants within the initial 3 months. Early engagement is especially valuable now, as it strengthens long-term collaboration and supports ongoing service delivery beyond this early phase.

Posting assignments

After the pre-assignments, candidates are able to apply to real work tasks. Post a task in a few easy steps and select the applicant you prefer.

Just remember to agree on work details through the platform, so you both know when a task can be marked completed.

Types of tasks

The work tasks are planned to be for example about digital security, digital marketing and digitalization of documents.

Payments are done automatically through the WorkPilots platform and you don’t need to worry about any paperwork. Just select the method of payment and we will take care of the rest.

How to join the ajira pilot?

1) Download the workpilots app

Download the WorkPilots app from Google Play Store or App Store. It’s free!

2) Register

Register to the service. On the page “Select your service” write the required private code AJIRAWP to register to the Ajira pilot platform.

3) create a profile

Choose role Orderer and fill your profile details: location, profile picture - e.g. your logo -, and an description about yourself or your organization.

Add payment card to your profile on page Payment methods.

4) Post work tasks & select worker

Create opportunities that candidates can browse and apply to.

  1. Click “New order” button

  2. Set the task category.

  3. Set the task duration, time and mark the location as Distance work.

  4. Add task details and payment method. Publish the order.

When someone applies to your task, you will receive a notification. Select as many candidates as your task requires.

5) Approve the work

After the worker has finished the work task, they will mark the assignment as completed and you will receive a notification about it. Approve the task and provide feedback to the talent. After that, WorkPilots takes care of paying the compensation to the worker.

Done. Congratulations! You have helped a young talent towards sustainable livelihood. You can post another assignment to another candidate or target your next task to the same person - based on one’s email address.
